Eagleson Road Valve Chambers Construction Project
As part of the City’s ongoing large diameter watermain condition assessment program there is need to complete this project and have a portion of it expedited and installed before the maximum water usage season. I writing to you today to give you advanced notice that we are proceeding with construction soon and the associated impacts this project will have on traffic along Eagleson Road and direct impacts to 2 businesses accesses. Before we approach the adjacent business owners and public that are directly impacted I wanted to send this along so you are aware.
Project background
General Scope of Work being completed
Staging/Timing
The construction of the valve chambers and watermain will be broken up into two stages and are shown in the attached drawings CS1 and CS2

Project background
- The existing 610mm diameter C301 watermain in Eagleson Rd (between Stonehaven/Michael Cowpland Dr and Romina/Emerald Meadow Dr – 1665m) known as “Bridlewood B” watermain was constructed in 1976 (the southern-most 336m was built in 2000) and has been functioning well however, to fulfill the requirements of the City’s large diameter watermain condition assessment program, the watermain needs to be inspected and in order to perform this inspection the following is required.
General Scope of Work being completed
- Install a new line valve chamber on the Eagleson Road 610mm diameter watermain 40m south of the Stonehaven/Michael Cowpland intersection
- Install a new air/access chamber on the 610mm diameter watermain 240m north of Cope Drive and replacement of 180m of existing 610mm diameter watermain along Eagleson
Staging/Timing
The construction of the valve chambers and watermain will be broken up into two stages and are shown in the attached drawings CS1 and CS2
- Phase 1 drawing CS1 - Due to peak water demand restrictions, the line valve chamber needs to be installed and
- Phase 2 drawing CS2 - The air/access valve chamber and pipe replacement can follow after the line valve chamber is commissioned and is being planned to commence in July 2020 and be completed in September 2020
Impacts
- Phase 1 - CS1 drawing
- To allow sufficient work space for construction and to provide a safe environment, Southbound traffic will be shifted and reduced to 1 lane
- Southbound left turn to Michael Cowpland to be closed in off-peak times to safely allow construction activity.
- Commercial Entrance will be hard closed from traffic entering or exiting for a duration of approximately 4 weeks
- Phase 2 – CS2 drawing
- To allow sufficient work space for construction and to provide a safe environment Southbound lanes will be closed and a median cross over constructed resulting in 1 lane of traffic each way within the construction limits.
- Commercial Entrance will be hard closed from traffic entering or exiting for a duration of approximately 8 weeks.
- Please note these commercial plaza’s have other access points that will be used during the construction.
