Paths throughout the Hazeldean Woods
You may have noticed more activity in the Hazeldean Woods area recently. Staff have been busy working in there to clear up debris from last months storm as this area was hit particularly hard.
You may also see piles of woodchips throughout the Woods over the coming weeks. I’ve asked staff to put down some woodchips along the pathways after residents requested that the pathways have woodchips or gravel put down to better define the pathways throughout the Hazeldean Woods.

Update on the Larsen Linear Pathway
If you’ve been by Larsen Park recently, you will see that the pathway extension out to Eagleson Road has been completed, however the pathway is still blocked off. Due to a material shortage, the poles and luminaires required for the pathway lighting will not be available until December or January, so for safety reasons, staff have decided to keep the pathway closed until the lighting is installed. As soon as the materials arrive the contractor will be in to install the lighting and the pathway will be opened at that time.

Akerson Pathway Project
Beginning in early September, the City of Ottawa will start construction for the Akerson Pathway (see map below).
What: Work will involve the construction of a new pathway, rehabilitation of a small segment of pathway and providing on-street painted cycling facilities and will include a Pedestrian Crossing over Equestrian Road at Pony Park and will also have a Bike Repair Station installed where the Hydro Corrridor meets Akerson Road.
Why: The project is to extend the active transportation facilities and to enhance connectivity to the existing pathway network.
When: This work is expected to begin early September 2021. Completion is anticipated by the end of November 2021.
Where: Work will occur from Pony Park pathway to Michael Cowpland Drive.
Who: The City of Ottawa has retained the Contractor, Mopri Construction, to complete the work.
Accessibility
Accessibility is an important consideration for the City of Ottawa. The City makes every effort to provide access through and around construction sites. If you require special accommodation, please contact the project team listed below. Accessible formats and communication supports are available, upon request, at the following link: www.ottawa.ca/accessibleformat
Traffic Impacts
During construction, access to the existing Pony Park Pathway and private properties will be maintained throughout the construction period.
Impact on the Right of Way
The road construction may result in some disruption to part of the private property directly adjacent to the work. The City will reinstate all sections of landscaping, driveways and walkways that are disturbed by construction.
Construction Disruptions
The Contractor will take every precaution to minimize interruptions to the everyday life of your family and/or operation of your business, but as you can appreciate, there may be some inconvenience during the course of the construction work, such as noise and dust. You may also feel vibrations due to heavy equipment operations. Vibrations from construction activities are quite common and rarely cause any problems. We would like to thank you for your patience and co-operation.
For construction activity hours of work, the City of Ottawa follows provincial requirements and the City’s Noise By-law (2017-255).
Contact Information
For any emergency outside normal working hours on weekdays and weekends, please call the City at 3-1-1. For further information about this project, please contact the City’s Project Manager, or me via email [email protected] or phone, 613-580-2752.

Larsen Linear Pathway
I am very pleased to announce that the missing piece of pathway in Larsen Park will be completed this year!
I have been working with city staff for years now, requesting that a missing piece of pathway that would connect the Larsen path out to Eagleson Road be constructed. This Fall, a new pathway running from the existing Larsen Park Pathway will run easterly approximately 90m meters out to Eagleson Road (see below map). This pathway will be paved in asphalt at 2.5 metres wide and end at the back of the west sidewalk on Eagleson Road.
Thank you to the resident(s) who have very kindly mowed and plowed this missing pathway link for years so that residents could get out to Eagleson Road!
