Bell Canada Fibe Work in the Community
As many of you have already seen, Bell Canada has been in the area working to upgrade their infrastructure. This work is taking place on the Right of Way (ROW), which is the portion of city property located adjacent to the roadway. This work has been contracted out by Bell to companies such as Broadband and Telecon, so you may see these vehicles around more this Summer. I realize that this work is intrusive and while improvements to the process have been made, ( bore holes being dug every few feet as opposed to digging a trench along the entire ROW and fishing the cables under driveways—when possible– instead of digging them up) the work does take some time to complete.
If you’re street is in the queue to be done, you should receive a letter explaining the work to be done that includes customer service contact information for both Bell Canada and their contractors. Please note that it is difficult to predict timelines as to when the work will be completed and there is usually a gap between the underground work being done and when the restoration company comes in to reinstate your property. This is normal as different contractors are used for each phase of the work. Bell Canada, their contractors, and the city of Ottawa all have Inspectors who come by at different points throughout the work to perform inspections. If you have any concerns or questions please reach out to the appropriate contractor (see below) or you can call 311, or my office 613-580-2752.
